productive morning

I have had a TRES productive morning thus far.
Alarm went at 6 because Mom and Dad were leaving for the weekend and had to be gone by 7, and Mom and I needed to attend to the ram with the abscess before they left. I didn't get up until 6:17 though, because my new sheets *SQUEE* High threadcount loveliness :D made the bed SOOO comfy. Got up, dressed etc.
Was talking to Mom by 6:35. Her greeting: "morning, sleepyhead!" oh yes, we are warped morning people around here!. TUrns out she and Dad had done the Ram already, so I was able to put in a load of laundry I sorted last night so that I was SURE to do much needed laundry today. I helped them finish packing the camper, fed the animals, and was back inside by 8:05 AM. Put the first load of laundry in the dryer and a second one in the machine. Did my dishes. Tidied my office. Made coffee and toast. Sat down and checked lj. And now, to work on the diss. Not a bad day's work before 9AM. YAY ME! Hope the momentum continues with the diss -- I could REALLY use a good days work, for the progress, and for the sense of accomplishment/relief. Stress monkey-me has been fluttering at the edges of my days of late.

lawgeekgurl It will all work out, I promise. You said something about feeling like you might have taken a wrong turn somewhere: well, I don't buy it. I believe that the paths we are on are always the ones we are meant to be on. The reasons why aren't always clear while we are on them, but there *IS* a reason. And I know this smacks of fatalism and theology, but I also think it is true. It's one of the reasons I have always felt an affinity for the following Tolkein poem. You'll know it, I'm sure:
But of course, the above is the first version of the walking song, because the lyrics change after Frodo's "adventures," and as he walks to the Grey Havens, Sam hears Frodo "singing softly to himself, singing the old walking-song, but the words were not quite the same."
It is the second version which is oft-quoted, and which I love. But I think its meaning becomes most clear when it is contrasted with the first version. But then again, I am a text-geek, and like such things. I just wanted to share the words with you,
lawgeekgurl, because I am thinking of you today, and because they strike me as the right words to share.

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate;
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day may come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.
