Miss Mew does indeed try for the quail, though more often in the summer, and she stalks them outside. I THINK she has come close to getting one....
When I was a kid, our cat Tigger (another stray who acquired us, and stayed for 22!!! years) once actually GOT a quail. I'd just gotten home from school and was saying hi to Grama and her bridge buddies in the cabin near our house. I saw Tigger fly by with this BIG THING in her mouth. I opened the door to see better, and in flew Tigger and the quail. There were biddies and feathers flying EVERYWHERE! ;D. Tigger was so startled she let the bird go, poor thing.... :(.
And JJ WAS indeed one of the ones to give me a new years eve smooch shortly after midnight- and that snozz is TERRIBLY kissable -- and she has the art Down. Pat ;)

i'm thinking that if miss mew caught a quail she might give you that astonished look and then have at it. once scarlet saw a wild turkey out the condo window. i'd never seen her eyes so *big*. heh.
and go tigger! although, heh, see that "holy toledo, did you see what i caught" moment. poor guy.
and yay for horse smooches. sending you a human one from over here. *smooch*
