And other horsey folks who might know. A dear friend's elderly mare has just been diagnosed with Cushings (elevated kidney enzynes, elevated glucose, edema). Her vet has suggested Pergolyte to help regulate her hormones. Roly, what do you have Diamond on? Can you make any recommendations that might help my friend?
Thanks in advance.

Date: 2006-07-09 05:53 am (UTC)I'm about to go out and put ponies to bed. Then more work before I fall over. (I don't sleep much. But's no later here than there, at the moment.)

Pet the ponies goodnight for me.

Your friend should check out the Yahoo Cushings group - very helpful people. But also very scary, so I can't deal w/ it!
Also, there's an equine rescue in the town next to here that has done some unofficial research on their on on chaste tree berry and Cushings - Permax is pretty pricey so they were trying to find cheaper, natural ways of treating it and have had amazing luck w/ chaste tree berry. They sell their own supplement w/ it too. I've just been too scared to take Di off the Permax and switch him to that since he's been doing so well. Their info is here.
*hug* to your friend and her mare! When it's found early enough, it's quite manageable!
